I tend to agree with you, I don't like using a search for everything -
I'm thinking of the help system in Office 2010, which is sort of a
(poor, since it doesn't have the advanced features) Google-type search,
AFAICT.

However, you must be prepared to answer the question: how, under the old
system, did you know which menu to go to for what you want?
I should have been more clear. ;) For basic things such as Control
Panel, Computer, Program list, and the like I certainly can get there
fast. For other things such as a file I may have forgotten the location,
buried program, buried windows utilities, I use the search function. So
had/have the best of both worlds, but now in Win 8 most is just the
search bit. So I'm not saying the search is a bad thing, just that I
don't like having to pretty much constantly type to find something. I do
many things during a computer session, constantly typing for this or
that becomes a pain. Besides, for easy stuff I can be taking a sip of
coffee and navigate menus at the same time quickly. Don't have to put
the cup down, type in "control panel" and such. Shortcuts, (Which
actually suck up resources) nope, I keep my desktop and status bars
clutter free. LOL Lazy? Naa, don't think so.

Cheers

I'm still not quite getting it: for something you've forgotten the mouse
route or keyboard shortcut to, how _do_ you find it other than some sort
of search (which must involve typing, nonne)?

Up above, you said you could get the control panel quickly anyway.

You should not post Win8 issues here, there IS a Win8 Newsgroup.

He was giving his opinion of Windows 8, and this is the group it should
be posted to, to keep other people from making the mistake of buying
Windows 8.

Agreed.

Upgrades from W7 are W7 issues. Even switch to a different OS is a W7 issue.

Without saying it, I am implying that I like Win 7 and others before
it better, with 7 as my fave. People did have hissy fits with Vista and
how different it was from XP, and pretty much every overhaul that has
come out. Ya just can't please everyone. I have never had any problems
with any release, until now. But that is MY opinion, which is shared
with many other people and reviews. I'll eventually embrace it and live
with it, pretty much because I will end up supporting it with clients
anyway. Being on topic; I don't recommend my clients upgrading to Win 8
from Win 7, for now anyway, particularly my business clients. Happy now
topic police? LOL

Similarly, I am not happy with Ubuntu's move to the Unity desktop, which
too uses the search function to find most things, and is harder to find
anything via the menu system. The difference is, you CAN choose the
classic shell at login.

Cheers.
