Wordpad annoyance

K

Hello, a quick de lurk for an annoyance ...
Win7 Home premium 64bit ... now saving for new copy of Office (we have
Office XP, but want to upgrade).
Started using wordpad for small documents at the moment, but we get a
grey background printed on every document. Have tried printer
preferences, changing text colour, no joy.

Anyone have an idea ? ... have googled and found a few with the same
problem, but no real answers.

TIA

I suspect not many people here would be using WordPad, so maybe you'd
have better luck if you could find a forum on that program.

OTOH, if I'm wrong, you'll probably get a good answer or two here :)

But I do notice that you said "changing text colour". Have you tried
changing the background color?

we do have a grey window background (white a little harsh). That was
set back to white, teal, red, and we still get a grey background when
the document is printed.

No luck in finding a specific wordpad forum ....

Have you tried "black and white" print setting?

Yes, and grey scale, and just about everything we can change .... even
thought the window colour was affecting it .. lol

Have you checked that there's a color cartridge in the printer? Without
color ink, you obviously can't print color, but it could be easy to
overlook, if you're concentrating on settings, etc.

Ummm ... yes there is a colour cartridge in, but we are trying NOT to
print a coloured background ....

I meant the *text* background color.

And of course, I have to ask this:

What is the color of the paper are you using?

....This is meant to add some humor to the situation :)

Or humour (not to mention colour), in your case :)

Try Notepad.
If that prints ok, then it's Wordpad that's causing the problem.
If it gives a grey background, then it's probably printer settings.

Yep, tried notepad, its fine ... dug out some old documents - as long
as its wordpad, the problem persists.

We are at the point of using one suggestion found through searches ...
copy the XP version of wordpad onto the new Win7 machine ... not
really a fix, but until we can get our hands on new version of Office,
it may have to do ....

Does the grey background show in Print Preview? When the document prints, is
the whole page grey, or just within the borders?

Print preview shows grey background (which is also the window colour)
and blue text (which is the window text colour on this machine). If we
change it back to the stardard black text/white background, that is
what shows in print preview.
When we print, the grey backgound prints within the border of the
document. And that doesn't change when we reset window/text colour...
grey background, black text.

Why not download a copy of OpenOffice from http://www.openoffice.org/.
