I googled "Word Magic" and found references to current apps for various
smart phones etc but nothing re 30 years ago. Maybe in days of yore I
worked on cataloging graves in Arlington Natl Cemetery. Whatever its name,
it was so far ahead of its time compared to other WP programs that it was
no contest. If I ever come up with its proper name I'll post it so that,
unlike those suddenly anonymous veterans in Arlington it can have a proper
gravestone.

Was it possibly WordStar? I remember it being very popular in the late 70's,
early 80's. I used it for a long time after our company was caught up in the
throes of Word for DOS and onward.
There was a WordMagic WP for Win95

Hello, a quick de lurk for an annoyance ..
Win7 Home premium 64bit ... now saving for new copy of Office (we hav
Office XP, but want to upgrade)
Started using wordpad for small documents at the moment, but we get
grey background printed on every document. Have tried printe
preferences, changing text colour, no joy

Anyone have an idea ? ... have googled and found a few with the sam
problem, but no real answers

The problem is that settings from the Windows 7 theme you are using are carr
over to Wordpads text background

Solution is either to set theme back to a default Windows theme or chang
current theme settings as described below. How drastic changing setting
wil
mess with look of theme will depend on theme. Advise before changing th
colo
settings make sure to write down the current RGB values so you can change bac
to theme color if messes theme up more than you are willing to live with. T
find current RGB colors for theme, click on the color boxes mentioned below i
instructions but don't select a new color. In the color options window tha
opens select 'other'. In the new window that opens write down the red,blu
& green values for current theme colors. Now you can navigate to and chang
settings as follows

In Windows 7, right click desktop and select 'Personalize'. In the windo
tha
opens select the 'Window Color' option icon at the bottom. In the resultin
window select 'Advanced appearance settings...

Now, in the new window that opens go to the drop down menu under 'Item' an
select 'Window
There are two colors you can change here. Color1 is the one giving you th
gre
Wordpad background. The 'Color' one will be font color. Keep in mind thi
affects other aspects of system and not just Wordpad so make sure to adjus
both. For instance if your current settings are a grey background and
whit
font, if you change background to white but leave font color, you won't b
abl
to see any text as colors will be same. Can try using different shades o
gre
for font color to keep theme looking OK. Once you have changed colors, hi
apply/OK. Change is immediate

Hope this helps someone. This is an old post but figured I would respond i
case others have run into the problem recently and are searching for solutio
a
well.
