Do you have net 4 installed?
If so, then get the update.

I neither have it nor want it.
There is nothing on this machine that uses .Net.
My laptop uses net 3.5 so I update that but block net 4.

For me the latest update for Adobe X Reader will not install and crashes
my computer. Of course the fault may be with my computer or their end,
but has anyone else had this? I am using W7.

You might want to post your question as a separate post since
its not related to .Net.
(I use Foxit 2.2, pre-bloat reader. Don't have Adobe at all.)

To fix Windows Update I use 'windowsupdate.diagcab' or
'MicrosoftFixit50202.msi'. MSFixit has an aggressive mode which they
don't recommend but I have used it many times with no harm to my
system. YMMV.

with Google.
