You might start by running sfc /scannow in an administrator command prompt just to make sure your system files aren't damaged. Microsoft info on SFC.

You could also clear out your prefetch data; this is not recommended on a normal basis but might help if it is somehow corrupted. Easiest way I know to do this is with CCleaner which has a setting to "clean" Prefetch data (which, as I said, you should normally NOT have checked).
