Running 32-bit apps on 64-bit OS

I went ahead and bought a new computer with the 64-bit OS. i'm now wondering if that was a mistake. for example, i want to purchase the new adobe creative suite and i'm not sure if it will run on the 64-bit OS. will most new applications run on the 64-bit OS, but maybe just aren't optimized to the 64-bit OS?
