Please describe what you mean by "the way some items jerk around on
the screen."

Does this happen all the time or only some of the time? If the latter,
under what circumstances does it happen?

Yes. Stop being annoyed so easily.

Pick a less violent screensaver.
Thanks to All :)

You can turn off some animations.

To prevent resizing and docking behavior (windows changing size)...
Might also be known as Aero Snap or Aero Shake.

You can adjust other visual effects. And there is a list
in step 6, of things that might be worth playing with.

Set a System Restore point, or do a backup, before you start
fiddling around. If you don't like the mess you got yourself
into, the System Restore point you set, can return to the
"jerky" setup you have now.

Preventing resizing and docking would probably be enough.

Do you live in earthquake country? Or on a small ship?

I strongly agree with the last sentence of Nil's post. The fact is, from
your description, I have no idea whatsoever of what you are talking
about, so I can't offer any suggestions.
