Network Adapter gets disabled.

Adapter connects to the internet on boot; then after about 30 seconds or
so a red X appears on In the Notification bar icon indicating NO
internet connection. If I uninstall the Network Adapter through the
Device Manager and reboot everything works great AFTER Win7 installs the
Network Adapter. If I boot in Safe mode with the internet enabled
things work OK.
This leads me to the conclusion that some program or service is
startingup during boot that disables the Network Adapter.I have
everything disabled in the Startup tab.
Going to the System Configuration window, via msconfig, I see there are
many Services that automatically run on boot can anyone tell me just
what services are required? Any and all help would be much appreciated.

When you reboot and Win7 reinstalls the network adapter, how long does it
then stay working? Have you checked the manufacturer's site for any updated
Win7 drivers (or your motherboard's site if the NIC is on-board)?
What are you using for a firewall and malware detection/prevention?

Did you check the Control Panel Power Options setting to see if its
being turned off as part of power management? Go through the Advanced
Options to see if any of them apply to you. Its not clear from your
description if this is a battery powered laptop or a desktop unit. And
its not clear if this is a wireless adapter or a pci device. So its
not readily apparant if power management is turning off the network
adaptor to save power.

Did you check to see which Network adaptor Ie If you use wireless and the
cable is not plugged in You will get the red cross for Ethernet And Visa
Versa

Soart intermittent problem, just can not say 100% solved or not. Thanks

Sorry about missed info, it's a desktop I assembled from purchased parts
from Fry's. It's wired to my router, no pci device built-in the
motherboard. Just where do I locate the Advanced Options in the Control
Panel?

my router. I've tried different cables, no change.

That probably wasn't a good idea. You'll likely want to reinstall
those updates as soon as you're able.

Do you actually lose your Internet connection at that point? Many
current computers come with dual LAN ports now, so it's normal to have
a red X on the unused port unless/until you disable it.

Assuming you have a single LAN port and you really do lose your
Internet connection, do you also lose your connection to your router
at that point? Do you trust your router? Have you tried another port
on the router, or do you have another computer that continues to work
through that router when this computer doesn't? Have you checked the
two LEDs next to the LAN port on your computer, (Link and Activity),
and the related LEDs on the router? Link should be on steady and
Activity should occasionally blink. Do you have another networking
device that you can plug the computer into, like a switch or hub,
(Internet connectivity isn't important or desired here) to see if the
computer recognizes the physical connection? Do you know how to check
your IP address information to see if anything changes after the red X
appears?

the BIOS. NIC's can be had for 15 to 20 bucks for a basic gigabyte one.

sure I have a PCI NIC card in my spares box.

Thanks for your advice, the Network connection is an on-board
connection. Checked the manufacturers site and the last changes were in
2005 so you see it's an outdated motherboard. But functions admirably
for the tasks I need. Will try a new PCI NI card, tried an older PCI NI
with no success, Win7 did not even recognize it. As for firewall and
malware I have Norton programs but, removed everything and still have
the same problem. Have a GREAT day.

Thanks Tom for your suggestion, I tried an old (2005) PCI NI and
couldn't find a driver for Win7, finally got to Best Buy and installed
Win7 recognized it and did a self-installation everything works great
