cat I think your AIO Desktop would run the SMP2 client. Your processor is comparable to the Dual Core Celeron I was using a month ago.

There is a little command-line interface getting started. However once you are all setup there really is not any reason to interface with the command-line. Once setup has been completed you can have a shortcut placed anywhere to start the client. Other people may prefer to setup the client as a service so that the client starts with windows.

Look at the weekly graph on this page.
http://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=506949

You will notice that for the first month I was not clearing 5000 points a week. I was clearing somewhere around 300 points a day. Now 6000 points per day is an average for me.

Personally, I find these bonus points to be unfair to those who can't receive them. I realize that everyone does not have super computers. I don't classify my computer as a super computer. I thought it was about time I built a system better than my previous eMachine or one that I could purchase.
Clifford, what kind of scores/points were you achieving with that celeron processor and the SMP2 client do you remember?

The Celeron Dual Core E1200 would have gotten me about 1000PPD. The Celeron replacements for that series is the E3xx, they perform better with twice the L2 cache and will probably give 1500PPD to 2000PPD.

You can see for yourself using the SP2 Calculator. Select project 6014 and enter about 20 minutes for the time per frame, to see the values I was receiving. After the upgrade to quad core the time per frame lowered to about 6 minutes. The time per frame ratio can be judged fairly close using the PassMark benchmark scores.

Okay thanks. Here's my deal.

I'm running the SMP2 client on an E3300 dual core for 55 hours now. I've completed 4.5 WU's so far. My avg. points/WU is about 80 so far with a slight upward trend. I chose to receive medium (5-10MB) WU's.

In the meantime, I completed another WU on a single core machine that scored about 140 points. I,m going to continue to moniter the situation for the next 2-3 days before I start to scratch my head to the point of pulling my hair out.

I've downloaded the GPU client which I believe I can run, but I want to see if I can realize the potential of the SMP2 client on my new (but inexpensive build.).

I know I can pump out the WU's, but I want to do better with points so I ask the best for advice.:)

This F@H has become dear to my heart for a number of personal reasons over the last couple of months. I need to do what I can.

Please, everyone, consider folding with our team. And many thanks to all that have and continue to fold.

Can you upload the "FAHlog.txt" file?
This will tell me a little more about your SMP2 client.

Question though: Did you run the "Install.bat" file to configure "smpd.exe"?

This will require that you login Windows with a Username and Password. After which if desired Windows can be set to start without requiring the password

And the Bonus Points require completing 10 WU with a Passkey. After completing 10 WU's with the key, bonuses are added to every WU.

Yes

?? I er hmmmmm I think so.

Ah yes, I remember reading this somewhere. Probably an earlier post. Thanks for reconfirming it. The log says 6 completed.

Like I said, I'll let it run for a few more days and take another look.

I'll continue to look into the GPU client as well and try to come to a decision on that.

The working log file is too big to upload. 90kb. do you want me to copy part of it?

I'm not sure the SMP2 Client is running. There seems to be the "-configonly" tag keeping it loading for configuration only. This flag is only needed when you want to change configuration setting. Once you have configured the client, the -configonly tag should not be used.

You should be seeing something similar to this within the FAHlog.txt file.

I do have that log file but it's over 90kb in size and I can't upload it here.

The one I did upload was the setup log in case you wanted to see that. I went through the setup a couple of times to make sure I had it right.

I will edit the other log so I can upload it. I'm not on that computer now.

Found from this page - Folding@home SMP FAQ
Note: In January 2010, the SMP2 client was announced (fahcore_a3), and a new quick return bonus was implemented. The bonus points program requires the use of a passkey. The bonus points were modeled after the -bigadv work unit Trial program, and the resulting change in points structure and new benchmarking is detailed in an addendum to the Points FAQ.
Found from this page - Windows SMP (v6.30) Client Installation Guide
Normally, if everything is done correctly, the client will be folding along fine. To verify the client is progressing, open the task manager and make sure there is one instance of the multi-threaded FahCore_a3.exe in the list. Or you can open the fahlog.txt file to see the client's progress.
There are several different cores:
For some reason your client setup the FahCore_b4. The one you need to have running is the FahCore_a3.

Use the -smp or -smp N switch at all times. If at any time you forget this switch, the client will probably be assigned a non-SMP WU. Without this switch, the client becomes a classic CPU client.

A final note that I was unaware of, the latest version 6.30 they dropped the install.bat making things much easier to setup.

I will upload the 6.30 Client and client.cfg in a View attachment SMP2_v6.30.zip file. However you are the only one that should know the Passkey so I couldn't add it to config.cfg. This will download the FahCore_a3 and allow you to compare the contents of the config.cfg with how you configure the client. Open config.cfg with Wordpad or Word to view, just don't edit the file with them.

I'm planning (hopefully) early next year to run the higher performance client, on my desktop. While a dual core processor is required, just any won't do. I read that the recent ones do better. With that in mind, I'm going to find the best one that will run on here. Most likely, it'll still be an Athlon X2, but a more recent & faster one.

It shouldn't cost much more than the hard drive that I just installed, at any rate, less than $100. I can't run like a race horse, but can do better, enough to run the high performance client, and finish the job on time.

It's running now but it says its a simulation. Is this right? It never went through the setup asking for my info. I have my passkey ready.

I'm sending you a private message about editing the client.cfg manually. :)

Here is part of my FAHlog.txt, if you notice it also states simulation. :)

Hi HappyMommy

If you want to configure the client again, you can delete the client.cfg file and start the Client over again.

Our team ID is 186660.

Questions:
Which client are you using?

If you are using the SMP2 client:
- Did you setup with a passkey?
- Did you add the -smp for additional client parameters?

This guide will explain everything - Windows SMP (v6.30) Client Installation Guide

If you have any question, please feel free to ask.

Thanks for joining the team. :D

This is unusual. Possibly HappyMommy finished a WU with the team id inplace?

On another note, I'm now running the GPU client alongside the SMP client. :)

I'm a little nervous about temps but so far so good.

GPU-55C
CPU-52C
after 8 hours.

Mine never ran below 90C at any time while folding. I had to stop for a bit, I'm waiting for a RAM chip to come in for it. I had one that worked, but it's only 512MB, that's like riding in a two cylinder car with a auto transmission, it doesn't have the power to run two programs anymore.

It had 2GB, and could multi task with that. But I doubt it'll fold with 512MB RAM installed. But I'm keeping it busy. I recovered a ton of files from here with Recuva, put it on a USB drive, created a folder on the notebook for it, dumped the files into the folder, 4GB at a time, and using CCleaner to overwrite them 35x. Right now, that folder is over 26GB, so it's got work to do. When it gets down to 10GB, I'll dump some more into it.

For the time being, it's my "privacy cleaner".:D

I've completed my first GPU job! :) 40K and counting.

Is it possible that I got credit for 3 WU for this?
Do Bonus points kick in after a time, with this client?
Bonus for SMP client should be kicking in within a few days (I hope). I lost count.
