I knew how to do this in XP but cannot find where in Windows 7 I can
change the spacing between desktop icons and their name fonts.
Anyone?
Thanks. Jeff

Go to:
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Personalization\Window Color and
Appearance

and click advanced appearance settings.

You can also just hold down the ctrl key and use the scroll wheel in
open area of desktop does it maybe more easily but not so much control
over text style versus size

WOW, that is terrific. Never knew that, but as you said, not much
control and no way to "undo" the changes.
Thanks.

Nor did I (I've never got on with scroll wheels anyway); thanks for the
tip.

Assuming this moves things around on the desktop, one of the many
desktop-position-memorisers (I use iconoid) will help you undo.

I was intrigued by the original question: I've never seen anyone want to
change specifically the spacing between icons and their text. Spacing
between icons (both horizontally and vertically), yes; size and fond of
their text, yes; but never that spacing.

"Oh, stick it up your nose." "Yes, which is precisely the sort of thing we need
to know, I mean, do people want fire that can be fitted nasally?" (s1, fit
six.)

I misspoke. I did mean controlling both the icon spacing _and also_
controlling the font size. Not the spacing between them.
