Computer freezes before login screen

i was playing an online game. My frames kept dropping so once i finished i restarted it to see if it would help any. but once i tried to turn it back on it was stuck in a please wait screen before it would let me log in. It let me enter in safe mode and i run my anti virue avast but it got nothing. I tried it again and it was just stuck in that screen again. I disconnected everything and the battery. Anyone have an idea?

Give it a start in "Safe Mode", just as a quick starter.

It could be a hardware problem, a virus, or many things.

A good thing to try is to boot from the W7 DVD or a Repair disk and have it run system repair.

Also, if you can get in in safe mode that is a good time to run a complete virus scan.
