WLM 2011 - Message sorting question

WLM2011 went and downloaded and installed itself a couple of days ago with
no prompting from me. It came in as a regular update, so I was a bit
suspicious of what it was going to do, considering all the adverse comments
about in here. And since I've only been using Win7 for a few weeks, I'm
still climbing a rather steep learning curve.

Messing around with it just now, I decided to sign in to my Windows Live
account, which I haven't been into for ages. And what a surprise. For the
first time, Microsoft have produced a regular mail reader that includes all
my Hotmail accounts, so there is no longer any need to go into IE and access
the Hotmail/Windows Live web site. It's all there in WLM. Brilliant.

The only real gripe about it is in the newsgroups section. When messages are
sorted by the date sent, the Conversations button is active, so the messages
can be grouped in conversations. However, any other form of sort, and this
button is blanked out, and all the messages are displayed individually,
ungrouped. Anyone know how to overcome this, and have the messages displayed
in groups as was the case in Outlook Express?

And on the same general topic, sorting by sent date seems to sort by last
message date rather than start of conversation date, which is useful, since
all the new messages are at the top of frame. Useful.

Couldn't agree less with the last bit.
The way it's in WLM 2011 any reply to any previous message will rise to the
top regardless of its current relevance. That includes replies to any of the
messages that are really just spam. I want to see messages that are current
subjects, not buried and separated by numerous out of date subjects that
someone just happens to reply to or add their opinion. If you like it this
way, then fine, let's have it as an option either way. In groups with 10's
of thousands of postings it's just too easy for current subjects to get
buried by irrelevance. Unless of course you like constantly having to use
search functions. Personally, I like being able to peruse groups to see what
current issues are affecting other people and may just fix my issues.

Until this is remedied, I'll be staying with 2009 and with the update
hidden, or moving to something else completely if forced to update.

WLM 2009 does all this much better than 2011 version, and it would do all
your accounts also. Do yourself a favor and uninstall that, then go here to
get WLM 2009:

Just wait until the mail is checked via schedule and you don't have any mail
from Hotmail. It will trigger the error box but not give an error number.
You will also notice that reply text is indistinguishable from original text
rendering the whole response process a "dogs' breakfast" worse than the
first newsreader that I ever used decades ago.

It is useful if you like new messages at the top...I don't and make reading
a thread of messages backwards in that one cannot easily follow the flow of
the messages that lead to the present message. You are always being forced
to go backwards to the previous message.

Long story short.

WLM 2011 is the dog's breakfast.

Don't use it for any reason.
