Windows Media Centre video files not compatible with older editing video software.

Windows Media Centre video files not compatible with older
software.

I have Windows 7 ultimate and a "Hauppauge" WinTV-HVR-2200MC
PCIexpress TV card.

It seems this card will only work through the Windows Media
Centre, (is this true?) which records the TV programs in
"DVR-MS" files.

I have always used "VideoReDo" editing software to edit
recorded TV programs because this has a good and simple
advertisment detector allowing these to be deleted. But
VideoReDo will not handle the "DVR-MS" viseo files.

In the VideoReDo webpage they say:

"In the meantime, if your WTV files are recorded in MPEG2
format and are running Windows 7, they can be converted to
DVR-MS format using a utitilty that comes with Windows 7.
Please note that this procedure does not remove an copy
protection in the .wtv file."

Where is this "Utility that comes with Windows 7"?

Please help, P

You should just be able to right click on the .wtv file and select the
Convert command from the context menu, but in case that menu item is
missing or doesn't work, here's a sample link discussing some ways to
repair it.

Thanks; I followed the hint on the above, which said:

Be sure that WTV files are associated with Windows Media
Center. The easy way to do this is to right-click on the
file, choose Open With and then choose "Choose default
program". Click on Windows Media Center and check the box
"Always use the selected program to open this kind of file".
Click on OK and the process is complete.

And this works. Though I may have to get Nero10 to work
with these.

Peter.

Whatever happened to that Real Player program that can copy any DVD to
the hard drive?

Does anyone know?

And would it then be possible to copy the stuff from the HD to a DVD disc?

Never heard of it.....

All the DVD copying info & tools can be found @

OT----------------------------------------------------------

Interesting headlines in the top news line @ Doom9.....

"It hasn't been a good week for big content: their first trial
against a BitTorrent site tracker (OiNK) in the UK resulted in
a not guilty verdict.......

......, the French authority in charge of disconnecting people
from the Internet for copyright infringement has been found
guilty of copyright infringement themselves......

........ and the online music price fixing case against the
RIAA label has been reinstated."

........And, after all the crying about losing money to piracy,
guess what happened - revenue from movie theaters is up 10% in
2009 over 2008 despite the financial crisis. So, dare I ask if
we really need to have three strikes, laws against camcording,
etc. if people still spend their hard earned dollar on movie
tickets despite the latest CAM release never being too far
away?

I found that renaming the extension of the WTV files to
*.mpg makes Nero10 happy.

Though there may be a better way.

You can burn a DVD from within Windows Media Center. WMC will offer you the
choice of burning a DVD video disc or a data disc. If you choose DVD it most
likely will offer to transcode any HD material or material longer than the
size your DVD blank will accommodate to a size and resolution that will fit.
No need for a third party utility.
