Why won't Windows Live Mail remember its last size?

It's so frustrating! Every time I open Windows Live Mail
(version 2009), its window fills the screen from side to side, but
only goes from the top of the screen to about half-way down. I have to
maximize the window every time I run it! I've tried setting the 'Run'
property to Maximize, tried resizing it by stretching the bottom
border with the mouse, but every time it opens, it still opens the
same way: covering the top half of the screen. This happens even if
I've strretched it to cover the whole screen, and hold down the
Control key while closing the program.

I've noticed that when I stretch the program to fill the
screen, there's a little effect (it's hard to describe; it's sort of a
ripple effect) around the mouse cursor when I get to the bottom of the
screen. I always took this to mean that something had happened. But
when I release the mouse button, the bottom edge of the Windows Live
window pops up a few pixels--like it's snapping to a grid--and I can't
find any way to stop it from doing this. I've tried stretching it to
almost full screen, so I don't get the ripple effect, but that doesn't
help.

This is very annoying. It never happened with Outlook Express!
Does anybody have an answer?

Once you've gotten it sized the way you want it, hold the shift key
down and mouse click the X at the top right of the screen to close it
while the shift key is pressed. It should open at the same size
settings you had when you closed it, and this should prevail until the
next time something changes these settings.

Hi Roy,

Go to the top border of the window where the max, min, and close (red x) are
located. Right click within the border and choose "size", then adjust to
your preference. That should do it.

Any window you want to resize permanently must be the last window closed.

Grab the corners of the window and drag it to full screen size. Do not use
Maximize. Close all other windows first via the Taskbar and this one last.
Windows will remember the size used of the last window closed the next
time you open the program.

If you still have problems, try this tool.

Hi, Roy.

This "failure to remember the window size" has been a problem and a pet
peeve for many users for several generations of Windows. :^{ Yours is the
first report that I've heard that it applies only to WLM and not to OE or
other apps.

It sounds like you've tried the fixes that usually work, so I'm not sure
what to try next.

The "stretch to fill the screen, then close" usually works IF we MAKE SURE
that the large window is the LAST WLM window closed. With some apps, such
as IE, we often find, after we close the large window we're working in, that
there is another, smaller window (perhaps a pop-up of some kind) lurking
behind it. So we mutter a Grrr... and close that smaller window - and it's
the LAST one closed so that's the size the app remembers for next time. :>(

You did not give us any details about your system: Make and model of
computer? Version (including SP level) of Windows? Version (build number)
of WLM? We can't tell from your message headers because you posted using
Forte Agent, rather than WLMail. Why did you not use WLM?

What is your display system? Video card? Latest drivers? Mouse/keyboard?

The more pertinent facts we know about your computer system, the more likely
it is that we can help you solve your problem.
