Trouble sending results.

My Smp-2 client finished a WU at about 4:00pm eastern. It couldn't send the results right away so I thought maybe the top of the hour when all the updating is being done is slow time to send it. The last entry in the log was 45 minutes ago which was 40 minutes after the completion of the work.

Is it okay to close the client and restart it without losing the results data?

I've had a few like that before. I didn't like it either. I think the WU's went later though. I'm not absolutely positive, I may have actually lost a WU before. Either way, I continued to fold as if it never happened.

It's happened to me a few times too, yodap. As to why, I don't know. But just like any other site that attracts a lot of traffic, folding@home gets slammed at times, and that may (or may not) be the reason.

I'm comparing it to my experience with Newegg last week when I bought my mouse, it took over an hour for my transaction to complete, from the time that I selected my item, until I was checked out. In the meantime, while this was going on, I called Newegg, I was told that there were no other complaints (on last Thursday morning). Bull! I had no problems elsewhere getting connected.

Like I stated it may or may not be the reason, but folding@home is a heavily traveled site, and some times, things just happens. My only possible guess is that the site was overloaded. It happens to me at least once per month.

As far as I can tell, this is what happened.

Either the working server or the collection server had problems and if that happens it can/will cause a bottleneck.

My data was finally successfully sent sometime after I went to bed but before midnight or about 7 or 8 hours after the WU completed. I got about 500 less bonus points than normal for that WU due to the delay. I still earned 4000 points and consider that a great day of folding.

Servers go down once in a while. It happens. As cat says, those servers are very busy so I'm glad it all worked out.
