Speaking of XP Compatibility Mode

Another thread got me thinking of my relatively minor problem. I
installed a home automation program using the XP compatibility mode.
The program runs fine. But, every time I launch it, Windows pops a
window that asks, "Do want to allow the following program from an
unknown publisher to make changes to this computer?" I click on 'yes',
and all is good. Is there a way to get ride of that announcement? BTW,
the program is Smarthome Manager.exe. The company doesn't support it
anymore, so there's no hope in getting a Windows7 version.

Yes, set User Account Control to ignore both unapproved programs and
system changes you make using Control Panel. It's an option in:-

Control Panel > User accounts > Change User Account Control Settings.

Set it to "Never notify", which is the least secure setting.

Of course, doing this can have disadvantages if you're not careful about
where you source programs and webpages from or have been known to have a
slip of the finger when you're changing a registry entry.

I sort of remember someone posting a way to make any program acceptable
by setting it up as a scheduled program using Task Scheduler, but I
can't remember where, and I couldn't get it to work anyway, but I didn't
try too hard.

Change the settings in User Account Control.

Thanks to those who replied. I did that and it seemed to work, however,
as one points out, now you have no notification .... probably ok, if
careful.
