Hello all,

This is yet another post about random freezes in a new win 7 computer.
The freezes are totally random.

I have tried the following.
1) Reinstalled windows
2) Disabled (from hardware management) several devices.
3) Installed Microsoft drivers, installed latest manufactorer drivers, installed sp1.
4) Updated BIOS to latest version.
5)Run windows utiltity for memory, run manufacturer utility for hard drive, run utility for graphics card.
6) Set up power management to full power.
7) And several other thing that didnt work.

My specs are

Motherboard : ASUS M4A87TD
CPU : AMD PHENOM ii x6 1055T
Graphics : NVIDIA Geforce GTX 460
Memory : OCZ DDR3 2 GB x2
HDD : Western Ditigal Black Caviar 1t WD1002FAEX.

My main question is, could this be a hardware problem?
Please help me find a solution because its driving me crazy and I nee to study from my MBA!!!

I will try to run a memtest and upload the results.

Hi gvaikousis and Welcome to the Forum.

I think your ram timings are out. (Cybercore will confirm/deny this!!) If they are out, running Memtest at this time will not really tell you a lot. Wait for confirmation of your timing settings.

Should be: 7-7-7-16
Currently : 8-8-8-20

Some old and outdated drivers for you to update:

Rt64win7.sys 9/2/2010 6:42:14 Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller v7.041

nusb3hub.sys 22/1/2010 1:22:18
nusb3xhc.sys 22/1/2010 1:22:22
Go to your Motherboard Mfr. Support website and update your USB 3.0 drivers.

LMouFilt.Sys 11/4/2007 4:35:30
LHidFilt.Sys 11/4/2007 4:35:22
Logitech SetPoint HID Filter Driver

AsUpIO.sys 6/7/2009 11:48:34 ASUS hardware monitoring software related

Thank you for the info. Among my confusion I did not think to download drivers from the mfr site. Instead I downloaded drivers from ASUS site and they are not the latest ones.
I have updated drivers of , mouse, keyboard , NIC and chipset.
I have also downloaded 2 new version of bios.
I was on 1101 and now I am on 2001.

USB 3 Drivers are still the same, cant find latest from NEC.

Step no1.
Update BIOS
Update NIC drivers
Update mouse,keyboard drivers

Problem still exists.

Freeze while listening to internet Radio.

Nothing else was running during the freeze.

Under my impression this is a known issue with Nvidia. I have the quite the same problem. It never freezes but is getting black out then back then after few hours restarts automatically. It is a know issue for Nvidia or maybe just me :) but I've read about it in multiple forums. Windows 7 with Nvidia Video cards are having some conflicts...

The Northbridge frequency and the RAM frequency are wrong. Consult your motherboard manual for correct timings.

You'll have to change them in the BIOS, choose Optimzed Settings for the motherboard and reboot and see what the new timings are.

Be careful about screwing around with the settings in the BIOS unless you really know what your doing. Consult the motherboard manual and take it one step at a time.

Step no2.

According to Motherboard manufacturer(ASUS) and RAM manufacturer (OCZ) I have changed RAM timings to 7-7-7-24 and 1.65 Volt.

I cant find from manual any NorthBridge settings so I have just left it to auto.

Failed.
Freeze again while listening to internet radio

Step no3

I have changed my BIOS settings from manual to "OC Utility Auto Configure"
This setting is quite different from the AUTO value since the BIOS will test and set the values it believes is best.

the Utility has automatically lowered my DRAM conf to 6-6-6-18 and set some lower values to NB freqs and voltage etc.

Lets see what happens.

I tried everything to fix the freezing problem.

Dont ask me why this worked but....

After installing Internet Explorer 9 the freezing problem disappeared and my computer is back to running at full speed again.

Note, I dont mean that it is just the browser which has speeded up, the whole system is now fantastically smooth and fast.

After step 3 , I left my computer running all weekend to see if it would freeze again.
I came back only to find out that everything was shut down after a power failure.

So I will leave it again open today 13th or April and check back again in 48 hours to see if the BIOS changes that I performed worked for me.

Generally, freezes occur because of:

- hardware failure such as PSU, memory, motherboard
- any hardware defect, incompatibility or misfit such as bent pins
- RAM must be set in strict accordance with the manufacturer's rates
- over- or underclocking can produce freezes sometimes
- 2 and more securities running side by side can cause freezes as well

And by the way, enable AMD Cool & Quiet, looks like it's off.
Set the memory as recommended by the manufacturer. You may want to load bios fail-safe defaults.

Hello all,

I hereby confirm that my freezing issues are resolved.

I have passed 2 weeks without any freezing so I guess it is a safe and valid conclusion.

What did it for me is lowering RAM and NB setting in my motherboard.

I have attached my current configurations.

I am not changing anything else since the system is up and running cool.

Thank you everyone for your help. This forum helped me solve my problems. :)

Sounds good if it works without issues now. :) However:

1. CPU must be way lower than 3,2 Ghz when idling
2. RAM is currently 930Mhz, which is rather non-standard.

Should you have any more freezes or crashes, the first thing you want to do is to enter bios setup and load fail-safe/setup/optimized defaults.
