My wife's computer has been un reliable since the warrenty period ran out and has began crashing when not being used. I have reformatted the drive, reinstalled Windows on several occasions and it worked OK for a while. I even changed the Internet Security program from AVG to Zone Alarm in case it was related to the problem. And though it restarts OK after a crash, another crash seems to occur at random time intervals and it is not obvious what is the cause. In addition, since the last crash all downloads (Firefox, IE 9 etc) are causing an error message that the file is corrupt. Also PC Tune-Up stopped working and reported that the file was corrupt. I have attached 3 minidumps in the hope someone can cast some light on the problem. Thanks

It sounds like your issue's are driver related. Update the driver's and make sure you disable your antivirus software while updating the drivers. Otherwise they won't install correctly.

Hi Kashegan.

STOP 0x0000001E: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED
Usual causes:
Device driver, hardware, System service, compatibility, Remote control programs, memory, BIOS.

Your latest dump file lists Memory_Corruption as the probable cause which usually indicates out of date Drivers, Bad Memory or incorrectly configured Memory Timings.
Old and incompatible drivers can and do cause issues with Windows 7, often giving false error codes. Random stop codes can often indicate hardware issues.

As a Priority:

While you are getting BSOD's: ZoneAlarm is known to be a cause of BSOD's on many Windows 7 systems. If you have the 2011 version of ZA then you can uninstall it through the Progams and Features and all should be well. Make sure that Windows Firewall is enabled.
If you have an earlier version of ZA you will have to download the ZoneAlarm Remover to help you remove it. Uninstall ZoneAlarm through Programs and Features. Boot to safe mode and run the ZoneAlarm Remover. Reboot. Again, make sure that Windows Firewall is enabled.
Replace with BSOD friendly Microsoft Security Essentials. Once your BSOD issues are resolved feel free to try ZA again.

Have you had Kaspersky installed? There are some drivers still in there. Download and run the Removal tool for Kaspersky, preferably in Safe Mode to clear up the remnants.

Outdated Drivers. Update:

nvlddmkm.sys Thu May 14 21:48:07 2009 nVidia Graphics Drivers.

  • Download and install Driver Sweeper.
  • Uninstall your current Graphics setup through Programs and Features
  • Boot to Safe Mode
  • Run Driver Sweeper to clean up the remnants of your current Graphics set up.
  • Reboot to Normal Mode.
  • Install your new Graphics set up.

Rt64win7.sys Thu Feb 26 09:04:13 2009 Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller v7.046

Download and run CPU-Z. Take screenshots/snips of the Memory tab and all the slot#'s under the SPD tab.

Go to Post Reply, click on Go Advanced button and attach the screenshots to your post for all the RAM experts to see by using the paper clip you will find on the top toolbar. Do not zip them up.

Hi,

Thanks for the advice. I have unistalled Zone Alarm and ran the Kaspersky remover tool (even though Kaspersky was never installed, I don't know where the drivers came from!) But the crashes are still occuring, the last two BSOD said they were due to Memory Management malfunctions. Some of the earlier BSOD said hardware problems. Is this an indictaion of a memory failure? I have tried the memory check on start-up, but it never displayed any problems. I have attached the last 6 minidumps. If you could take the time to examine them and let me know your thought i would appreciate it.

Thanks

Dave
