On MS site........ "There was a problem sending the command to the program"

V

Valorie *~

..... all I'm finding are forums with replies concerning Word, Zone Alarm and
other programs I don't have. Another person said it was security related.
It seems the "There was a problem sending the command to the program" is
very common and there are no answers on the MS site either. Why doesn't MS
have it's own trained techs instead of techie-kids making guesses as to how
to solve it?

I'm trying to resist going along with the others who have labeled you
a troll, but you make it difficult.

No, your latest error is not common, and will be even less common once
you add even a single relevant detail.

Going by the number of problems you seem to have may I humbly suggest =
that you give computers a very wide birth.
I don't think they like you, either that or you're not a computer =
person.

Does your newsreader have a plain text option, and would you consider
using it?

Are you talking about a message that you get when you double click a
shortcut icon on your desktop?

If so have you tried deleting the shortcut and re-creating it?

If you go here

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/categories?prof=required

and enter "There was a problem sending the command to the program" in the
search box you will get some 3000 hits.

If you look in the left hand pane you will see that you can narrow the
search down by chosing a category such as Windows 7.

Most of the answers come from Microsoft Moderators who are quite well
informed.

This problem was cured by deleting all the MS updates starting with Oct.
6th. I also shut auto-updates off in fear MS will resend them and the
problem will return.

It's set to plain text. I'm using WM I moved over from the Vista PC.

Oh yes, that didn't work. Removing the Oct. MS updates cured both
problems. I can drag and drop the URLs and links work again here and in
email. :)
Unfortunately the modem and Themes problem remain.

Yes, I was there at that site (among others) already and couldn't find the
answer. No one suggested it could be a MS update. I finally decided to
take a friend's suggestion and delete the MS updates that I suspected may
have caused the problem. THAT WORKED!!! I removed all the Oct ones and shut
auto-updates off in fear MS would resend the same ones again and the problem
would return. I know this is not good to do but I don't want the same
problem returning.

Those seem to be yes, but I couldn't locate my exact problem there and a
resolution.

What exactly was the problem that you were having?

Which update did you remove to fix the problem?

I don't know if I'd call that a cure so much as I'd call it a
workaround, but if it works for you then fine. Others have already
described how to hide unwanted MS updates.

Hiding them? How would that cure the problem they caused?

I didn't see any messages that "hiding" the updates works for the problem I
was having.

After the last MS updates I couldn't drag and drop URLs from the desktop to
the address bar in IE or MozillaFF. I couldn't click on a link in email or
here on Usenet. I'd get a text error.
Which update did you remove to fix the problem?
All of them from Oct.

You're hopeless. :)

I am? I don't have a PC for the same reasons others here do apparently, so
had no need to become as proficient as the techs down at the shops and some
of you here on this NG. ;-) Now that the updates are "hid," I can't add
them back one at a time to see which one caused the problem. They're not
there to deselect.

I assume Dave-UK's instructions were suitable in helping you unhide
the hidden updates, but the bigger question is, don't you ever get
curious and look around on your own? This is an example of something
you could have very easily found by yourself.

You know, some people have suggested you're a troll while others have
theorized that you're merely lonely and enjoy having people take care
of you. Interestingly, I haven't seen you deny either of those
theories. ;-)
