On MS site........ "There was a problem sending the command to the program"

Oh yes, that didn't work. Removing the Oct. MS updates cured both
problems. I can drag and drop the URLs and links work again here and in
email. :)
Unfortunately the modem and Themes problem remain.
Have you ever given it any thought that the reason the updates break the
links functionality in your email is because you are using an *OBSOLETE*
and *UNSUPPORTED* email client?

I assume Dave-UK's instructions were suitable in helping you unhide
the hidden updates, but the bigger question is, don't you ever get
curious and look around on your own? This is an example of something
you could have very easily found by yourself.
Of course I looked around and clicked around - and I didn't see them,
perhaps because they're now hidden. Also I have yet to come across Dave-UK's
post on this news server.
You know, some people have suggested you're a troll while others have
theorized that you're merely lonely and enjoy having people take care
of you. Interestingly, I haven't seen you deny either of those
theories. ;-)
Why bother? They'll think and believe what they NEED to think and believe
where any poster is concerned. Denying it wont change their minds.

Wrong! They work just fine now that I deleted the Oct. MS updates. It had
nothing to do with an older and better news client.

Why won't you use Windows' help system.

I am? I don't have a PC for the same reasons others here do apparently,
so had no need to become as proficient as the techs down at the shops
and some of you here on this NG. ;-) Now that the updates are "hid," I
can't add them back one at a time to see which one caused the problem.
They're not there to deselect.
Hello Valorie,

It sounds to me like you are saying that the file associations for URL,
HTM and HTML were broken when you did the update. I will admit that that
did not happen to me with the last round of updates, but is
theoretically possible that it did in fact occur on your machine.

Rather than remove the updates (some are security updates and if you do
a lot of web-crawling you do want to stay current with those, i would
simply re-create the file associations.

Since Windows 2000, I have lost file associations and not had time to
determine why they occured. I will admit that I prefer finding out why
things happen, but if the machine is other-wise stable, I would just go
with re-creating the file associations.

Sincerely,

I'm a little brain-dead this evening, if you need help in re-creating a
file association, you can look here for an explanation of how that is done;

http://www.winvistaclub.com/t19.html

Please let us know if that solves the problem.

Sincerely,

Judging by her replies to suggestions, I sincerely doubt she can; it's
probably 'hidden' on her messed up system.

What is it and where is it? Start/search-programs-and-files doesn't find it
on my PC.

Rather than anyone helping anyone on here.... why not send them all to this
"Windows' help system?"

A search using start/search didn't find it. That is the system as out of
the box. BTW, W-7 still can't detect the external modem.

OK, I didn't see where anything like file associations were broken. I had
no clue it would be related with associations. BTW, when I tried to
associate "Mail To:" there for example, to WindowsMail which is on my
machine 3 times, WM wasn't even listed as a choice. Just Thunderbird and
WLM. And the (*&^%$# MS security will not allow me to remove one install of
WM. Again I can't get permission to remove something. And people here
wonder why I'm bitter, disgusted and frustrated with this OS?

No matter what we do we still can't get control of this PC. I feel it
belongs to MS, not us. I still can't delete or remove files after the
initial success with the info someone here gave me. And yet I'm on here as
both Administrator and User. I'm bitterly disappointed and angry over
what's going on with this PC and the endless hours we've wasted on it.

For God' sake, are you blind?

I know you're playing games again, but for the benefit of someone else
who might have an actual legitimate question:

Click the Start button, then click "Help and Support". It could not be
easier even if Bill Gates himself appeared in a fluffy cloud right next
to you and guided your hand. He might even suggest that you hit F1 now
and then when you're feeling perplexed.
Rather than anyone helping anyone on here.... why not send them
all to this "Windows' help system?"
The Lord (and the newsgroup) helps those who make at least a minimal
effort to help themselves.

You're not really that clueless are you? How about it's a default icon
right there on the start menu (hint... it's called
"Help and Support".

Because we're not on your damn payroll. If you're not going to at least
pretend to try then you're on your own.
