Hey I am working on my number 12 build dedicated for a W7 machine, the reason this is different is it is going to be my first high performance quad core for personal use rather then a customer build.

so far I am thinking a quad core processor, 6 gigs ram, 1 gig video card, 500gig hdd.
I am going with a core i7 my second build.

asus board enless I should go use gygabite......

I am going to use windows 7 ultimate OS

any advice on what brand of ram I should use or any other ideas im really stocked by this

Well, first and foremost you have to ask your self, "What am I going to use this PC for?"

Gaming? Leisure? Advanced computing (CAD, 3d software, development etc)?

My Current build is as follows:'

Q6600 @ 2.4 Ghz (stock)
OCZ Gold DC 2 GB DDR2-800
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L rev.2
1TB 7200 RPM 32MB Buffer Segate HDD
500w OCZ Powersupply (it might be 550 I don't remember"
9500GT (I had a 8800 GTS 640mb but I gave it back because I stopped gaming).
Oh and Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

You will almost never during gaming or leisure use 4 cores, I bought mine because it was cheap during the time, 170 during black friday a few years back. 2 gigs of ram sufficed for me and I don't really get any system slow downs.

All in all you don't have to go bannana's on your build.
