jumping cursor

Using W7 64 bit on a laptop which has a Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad.

I'm having a problem with the cursor jumping around to the top of the
screen for no good reason. I've played around with the sensitivity
controls and I am sure it is not caused by my accidentally touching the
touchpad. The behavior is not limited to a certain application or activity.

I've heard of others having the same problem. Is this a known bug with
W7? Is there a solution or work-around?

Thank you for any suggestions.

Is the device using touchpad drivers or is it using mouse drivers. If using
mouse drivers try going to the Synaptics website and install their driver.

This touchpad is using the Synaptics driver that came with the laptop
and though I updated it from the HP (laptop) manufacturer, nothing
changed. Today, I downloaded the driver from the Synaptics website
instead and I believe that did it. It may be too early to tell for sure
but so far it seems to have solved that crazy cursor problem. Keeping my
fingers crossed.

Thank you for pointing me in the right direction. I owe you one.
