Incomplete Win7 OS cannot get printer working ADDENDUM

A

Anonymous

Just was given a Win7 box with Enterprize on it.

When I try to add my old panasonic dot matrix printer for which I do not
have any setup disk but which works perfectly under XP and is listed in
the XP printer list, I find that this 7 OS (for which I do not have the
install disk) does not list Panasonic.

When I click on update printer files, I get a message saying wait till
Windows updates the files, should take a few minutes. But I do not yet
have a net connection so if this is an online update I cannot do it.

Is there anyway to get a more complete driver list for printers for
Win7. The Mfg is not releasing updates for this dinasour but very good
printer (yeah panasonic!). I have searched and searched for a driver for
this Kx-p2123 printer but all I find is spyware sites pretending to have
the driver while trying to get u to download their malware.

HELP!

Sorry I should have added that I can download from my XP machine so if
the driver software for this printer can be accessed please supply me an
url. I do not trust doing online updates with MS anyways, so unless I
can find a zip file with the printers update, probably will not install
it. This looks like another way for MS to mess with your computer to get
your printer working under Win7

Your type will never seize to amaze me.
If you don't trust Microsoft then don't use Windows.

I had a tiny bit of sympathy for your situation until that last part.
Follow Seth's advice, hope for the best, and good luck with your life.

If you go to the following URL you will see that there is NO PLAN to
support your printer under Windows 7.

"seize"???? You must be an OS developer for MS?

More suckware OSs from MShit. Try using a real OS-nix
Driver support for printers and other hardware is the responsibility of
the hardware manufacturer, not Microsoft. If you have a problem with
that, complain to Panasonic.

BUT, Microsoft will provide one if you allow Windows 7 to retrieve
the additional drivers from Microsoft support.
Did you try that yourself? Microsoft has no Vista drivers for a
Panasonic KX-P2123. If they don't have Vista drivers, I doubt they
would have Windows 7 drivers.

I did, and there is. Here's a quote from my reply in the other thread:

"Go to Devices and Printers, click on "Add a printer" at the top of the page.
Select "Local printer" then "Use an existing port" then click Next. When the "Install the printer driver" window comes
up, click on "Windows Update" near the bottom. It may take a minute or two to finish, depending on your connection.
Scroll down to "Panasonic" in the left pane, then pick Panasonic KX-P2123 from the right pane."

The printer is listed, so I would assume it's a driver of some sort just to allow output to the printer. From what I've
seen for other printers, it's usually a very basic driver without all the bells and whistles that the company driver may
supply. But, for an older dot matrix printer, how many frills would there be anyhow? :)

I had gone through that process but I didn't see the printer listed.
However, I just checked again and it was there, so either the list
didn't refresh itself or I just plain missed it. Anyway, you're right,
a driver for that printer can be downloaded from Microsoft.

I'm one of those who don't trust Microsoft (so be amazed). Some of their
products are marvellous, including Windows Except 8), earlier versions of
Office and VB6. Others seem to be buggy or have devious twists, Vista was a
disaster (so was Dos 5.0 (yes, I go back far...)). Buggy products waste
people's time. And as for trust, try doing a serach on the Jamaica debacle
and decide for yourself.
