I am curious about these folders

Hi,

In my Application Data folder I find about 900 folders looking like
this "{B2AE39FC-B066-4BB7-B451-A387B9899FF7}"
I have tried to open some of them, they seem empty.
They do not bother me at all but out of curiosity :
what are these folders ?
where do they come from ?
are they useful or can they be deleted ?

TIA

Messenger leaves folders like that as unused remnants it leaves behind
when it closes. Appears to create a new one every time it's run. They
can be safely deleted.

If you have any pre 2012 versions of Windows Live Essentials (Mail, Messenger, Photo Gallery, Movie Maker) installed those folders
are the result of a coding problem that places those 0 Byte folders in your user profile's Application Data or AppData folder
instead of a TMP/TEMP file location thus avoiding routine Windows temporary file/folder cleanup.

Unfortunately they have to (and can) be deleted manually. Their presence doesn't hurt anything but they do not serve any useful
long term purpose.
