I have a 1TB external hard disk. it used to work just fine until recently. i can't see it in windows explorer and sometimes when its seen it asks to be formatted. when i tried formatting i received a message "windows cannot format the hard disk". it had been renamed but then it started appearing by the name "local disk". i cannot open it thru disk manager where it appears as "disk 5" and asks to be initialized. When i go to the safely remove hardware command, i can see it there, though with the manufacturers name. How can i get it back working without loosing the data stored in it.
