free upgrade cd

I purchased my notebook in August and so I was entitled to a free upgrade cd
for Windows 7. I requested this and received it . I have created a partition
in Vista and would like to put Windows seven alongside Vista and dual boot.
All I can find on the net are instructions to dual boot from a dvd that was
made from a beta version of Windows 7. I have received two install cds, one
a wizard for my machine and one the upgrade cd. I have no doubt this upgrade
will work, but can I keep Vista and install Windows 7 to my new partition
and dual boot with these two upgrade cds? Or can I only upgrade to Windows

You might find better information on your notebook manufacturer's site.
Search through their FAQ's, or, if they have forums, search there for users
that have done it and how they accomplished it.

I am busy trying all that without much success.

First of all I live in the Netherlands. The shop doesn't have a clue. I went
to the makers site Emachines at
http://www.emachines.com/support/options.html
who made it, I sent a detailed email, First of all my model didn't appear in
their list, they don't know me, and say my serial number isn't correct, it
is, but they can't help me without a correct s/n. It is the number I used to
get the free cd, they asked did I buy in the US or Canada, I can't find a
helpdesk in the Netherlands or in Europe.

The subject line in your message really has nothing to do with your
question. 'how to dual boot' may have harvested a few more replys or maybe
'1978 chev' would have got more.

Anyway...

1. Don't use the wizard DVD.

2. Go here...

Thanks, sorry for the confusion about my subject line, I will read that
with great interest, (after work) and report back.

It will work.

Like I say don't use the Wizard DVD you got. Lord knows what that thing
will do... probably transfer all their pre-installed crap and render Vista
useless.

Just toss in the Win7 DVD and do install it on the empty partition.
Register after you re-boot, do windows update, and re-boot... you have 30
days anyway.

You have a license to use one copy of Windows. The Win 7 Upgrade
replaces the Vista installation rendering the Vista license invalid.

Don't be surprised if/when the Vista license comes up invalidated by WGA.

It shouldn't be an issue, only one of the OS's can run at a time.

From the Agreement you click through during installation.

"14. UPGRADES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for
the software that is eligible for
the upgrade. Upon upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the
agreement for the software you
upgraded from. After you upgrade, you may no longer use the software you
upgraded from."

It isn't legit. And from an Activation standpoint you may find they
killed the key. Upgrades replace the previous, you haven't paid for the
rights to use both OS's
