Nooo, this is definitely NOT the same place I took the computer and paid $200 already. For the record, that place didn't give me the computer back with a dying HD--it was my external HD that crashed while my computer was in the shop.

On the resolution problem, yeah, I'm having trouble finding the right driver, unfortunately :(

You could try to manually update the driver.

Device manager -> video adapter -> (Right click) Properties -> "Driver" Tab
Click on "Update Driver"

It should be C:\AMD\Driver.......I think.

Okay, I updated the driver through the device manager. Resolution problem is fixed (for now)...so now I'm back to waiting to see if I'll get that AMD error message or not. Fingers crossed!

Ok, this is interesting. Unknown bug check code. But it looks like the ATI driver.

Do you know what version causes the crash?

I don't know if this is what you mean, but it looks like it's the driver that is installed as part of the AMD Catalyst 12.7 Beta package (I'm only installing the driver, though). I also tried the 12.6 one and the same thing happened. I wonder if I installed an earlier driver if that would fix it? Or where I can even find earlier drivers for it?

Could you please remove Asus ATK0110 ACPI Utility.
ASACPI.sys Mon Mar 28 13:30:36 2005
It is old and known to cause crashes.

EDIT:
Try to return to the new driver after you remove the above utility.

I just called AMD and they suggested I downgrade my driver to 12.3. I did that, so now it's time to wait and see if it works.

How do I remove the Asus ATK0110 ACPI Utility?

Is Windows seeing you specific monitor type / brand?

That utility is part of the Asus PCProbe and AISuite Utilities

Yes, Windows sees the specific monitor type / brand.
I can't find that utility to remove it. How am I supposed to do it? Should it be in my add/remove file program list?

I just BSODed twice on the 12.3 driver, so it's not fixed. I did a system restore before saving the minidumps, though

Ha, of course the Autoruns program isn't showing ASACPI.sys in the drivers list. I installed the video driver again, though, so once it blue screens, I'll post the dump.
Again, thanks for all this help!

Could please turn Driver Verifier on. It is still a problems with the video driver.

(Borrowed from Zigzag3143 posts)

Driver verifier
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition. Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is. But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver. Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows. If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

So, I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Special Pool", "Force Pending I/O Requests" and "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen.
Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly.
The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the drivers out.
If it doesn't crash for you, then let it run for at least 36 hours of continuous operation.

Reboot into Windows (after the crash) and turn off Driver Verifier by going back in and selecting "Delete existing settings" on the first page, then locate and zip up the memory dump file and upload it with your next post.

If you can't get into Windows because it crashes too soon, try it in Safe Mode.
If you can't get into Safe Mode, try using System Restore from your installation DVD to set the system back to the previous restore point that you created.

Without even doing what you last suggested, it just BSODed twice in a row right after starting the computer up. Here are the dumps. Should I still try the Driver Verifier?

Yes please, I need the information from Driver Verifier.

It is the same strange error from the video card.
Is the video card from Gigabyte or Sapphire?
