Black screen at startup

Good day. I had a 'low voltage' warning on our Dell 745 and found out how to fix it. The video blows thru some maintenance items after replacing the 3V battery and now I get a black screen with the option to press F1 or F2 to continue startup, as opposed to the Windows desktop password page. I could live with this if I have to but would be more happy if I could fix it. Does anyone have a step-by-step method for getting back to the previous condition? Windows 7 Pro, 64 bit system
