No need to wait. There was an update to all things Live yesterday. Be
careful to only update what you have installed instead of the whole Live
Essentials package.

I am using the latest version right now. Is it working right?

WLM 14.0 works like you want it to (it's the version I use). It's
available here:
http://software.informer.com/getfree-old-version-windows-live-mail/
That link no longer works. If anyone wants WLM Version 14.0.8117.0416, use
this link:

http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/windows-live-mail-dl.html

You have to delete ALL of WLM 2011 before it will install (your
customizations will still be there). Save the download in case you
accidently install WLM 2011 "Important Update" again.

Thank you very much for the effort. I'm wary of "non-official" sources ..
and Thunderbird is fitting the bill in the interim. As a matter of fact, I'm
beginning to warm to Thunderbird. It doesn't have the interface pizzazz, but
the rendering of the posts is very nice.

Welcome to the TB club. I, like you, tried WLM with Win7, but found it
too unreliable, as it frequently failed to post. IMO it wasn't as good
as OE6 under XP. And if MS isn't going to fix the "show previous post"
issue (ie it doesn't show anything, even a ">" for previous text), that
makes it unusable. Remember also that MS has no interest in Usenet news
now - it prefers its own forums where it has full control.

TB isn't perfect, but it is better than WLM.

No wonder that Mac make $$ billions and Microsoft make
WLM 2011... -;)))) It's quite possible that Gates going for his
retirement took from MS the best brain with him and we're
bound to suffer.
Well, just start to think about switching to Mac as rest of

You can also move WindowsMail to W-7 and remove WindowsLiveMail. A quick
Google will show that many people hate WLM. We did so I loved WM from my
Vista PC to my W-7 PC.
...............

I have tried to install Windows Mail to Win-7 but in vane.
WLM 2011 is a complete disaster !!! How could Microsoft
did that to its customers? Shame... disgusting...

Old versions have been removed from Microsoft.com. The download relic gave

rid of WLM 2011... a POS btw.

Actually I ended up taking thunderbird off the machine as I could not get
it to filter out frank and alias. The message filters didn't seem to show
any easy to use kill file filters so I put wlm back on this machine. I
prefer wlm 2009 but can't find any download on microsoft. All I find is
this 2011 version which I don't like but I have figured out most of it but
I can't get it to quote when I reply to newsgroup posts. Have to do it
manually.
This is ONE problem with WLM 2011, and the others are missing
Tools at the toolbar. This WLM2011 looks very "amateurish" like
very early version of Netscape. There is definitely something
MISSING from this Microsoft product. I take this version of
WLM2011 as an insalt to all customers of Microsoft.

That's because you're using an old version (14.0.8089.726). When MS
updated that they screwed up the reply delimiter (>), so when you get
multiple replies in a newsgroup posting it is impossible to tell who
posted what!

Hi Jeff:

AFAICT, your above reply is not marked off with the character '>'. This, to
all intents and purposes, breaks the thread. While WLM 2011 works with HTML
posting, I am doing this in plain text. The news server I am using accepts
only plain text posts and replies, so the news reader must be able to handle
working in plain text. AFAICT, plain text replies are broken in WLM 2011 so
far to date. 'Using the latest version I could get my hands on: Version 2011
(Build 15.4.3502.0922).

Thanks,
LS

Yes and I am also using this version. Really hate it compared to the 2009
version.

Why did they have to ruin an okay program?

Almost makes me want to try UBUNTU or whatever they call it.

I'm not sure what's going on with your WLM 15.4.3502.922. Your reply to
my mail is in pale grey as I read it in Thunderbird and didn't show at
all in this reply (I copied and pasted the above text between the [ ] so
you could see it. If you look at the posts before your reply, you will
see that they are all indented with >>>, >>, and > from my last post. I
always try to post (and read) in plain text.

If you look at the the reply from Dave "Crash" Dummy to my reply to the
Original Post from Lee Waun yesterday, what do you see? Are there any >?
The dashes set the second part off as a signature i.e. grayed when
viewed in Thunderbird. WLM 2011 added that when I hit the reply to group
button. It did not add the '>' character though (and therefore is
useless as a plain text newsreader program until they fix it).

LS

So my question is do they plan to fix it or did they break it on purpose?

My newsreader, 40tude Dialog, also greys out the signature, thus kind of
obscuring the reply by news.aioe.org.

It seems lots of people like to add there comments after the signature
delimiter. I tend to ignore them.

I wonder - is there a setting somewhere in WLM to change the quote
delimiter character? Maybe it has the wrong default but can be altered.

Yes - in my version (Version 2009) under Options - Send - Plain Text
Settings there's a checkbox.
It's not the signature, though. It was WLM 2011 messing up the reply. It
is broken.

Now as to your question is there an option to change the dahses to
something else? Not that I can tell - you will have to contact
Microsoft, I guess. If you do, while you are at it, please ask them to
fix plain text posting in WLM 2011. Then I can use it again.

Thanks
LS

So what are you using now?

Well first off thank you to whoever it was that posted that link to wlm
2009. I used it and I have wlm 2009 back on my machine and it quoting my
messages here in this newgroup perfectly.

It really bothers me they would release such a broken program as wlm 2011. I
know now not to upgrade every program especially when what you have gets the
job done.

They will fix it on 01-01-When Hell Freezes Over

As to breaking it on purpose? Well, there was a fictional politician
called Francis Urquhart (FU...) on a wonderful British TV series called
"House of Cards". His standard reply to anyone posing a direct
question, to which his reply might be libellous, was "You might wish to
think that, but I couldn't possibly comment".

I think his reply fits your question perfectly.

I managed to "Restore" Windows Live Mail " using

I ignored the message and preside normally - rebooting again after a

Windows Mail is obsolete and is no longer supported. So don't expect

So what are you using now?
In one of my posts in this thread, I pointed out the delimiter for the
signature is an Internet standard (I said Usenet, which is probably only
partly correct). The correct delimiter consists of two hyphens, a space,
and a newline.

So neither you nor Lee Waun has a chance of getting Microsoft to change
it :)
