Windows Vista Administrator login

W

Windows Vista

Does anybody know how to login as Administrator in windows Vista? In XP
we could do this by typing at the welcome screen:
CTRL+ALT+Del
CTRL+ALT+Del

It was necessary to do it twice but not sure if it is the same in
Vista? When I say Administrator, I mean "Administrator" NOT some
usernname created as Administrator.

I need this so that I can recover lost password of the original
Administrator. I am sure the factory defaults are still their and so I
want to try loging in as Administrator with blank or * (star) passwords.

I hope somebody can remember this. I was one of those guys who skipped
Vista generation and went for Windows 7 direct. Windows 7 haven't got
Administrator by default because it is disabled.

Go here

and just as a suggestion for the future, these kinds of questions can
often easily be answered by using Google.

For example
if you google
activate the administrator account in windows 7

you'll see the link I gave you if the first one that shows up. Takes
all of 10 seconds.

I don't post this to scold you, just to show that almost all the
questions have already been asked and answered and you can often save
time and trouble by googling things as a starting point.

No you can't do this if the administrator account is not activated and
if you don't know the user password who has the administrator privileges.

Have you tried booting into Safe mode? this should show you all the
accounts on the machine including the Administrator account if one was
activated.

If nothing works, you can always use password crackers available for $10.

How is this going to help the OP if he/she doesn't know the
administrator password to launch cmd prompt using Administrator?

You need to know one password that is Administrator otherwise it is not
going to work. You need password crackers for this to work or reformat.

For myself accessing the admin account would be through safe mode, run ,
msconfig , boot, safe mode. This is the most reliable way to open in
safe mode, instead of a hit and miss f8.

If the administrator account has never been activated it won't have
any password set. I've done exactly as I posted many times without a
hitch.

I just posted in the other line but I see where the confusion is here
and it's not clear if he's got that problem or not. So it may or may
not be a problem.

The confusion is that you can't launch cmd prompt unless you have
another Administrator user doing it. The OP says:

"/I need this so that I can recover lost password of the original
Administrator./"

The original Administrator could be the user with these privileges or it
could be the activated Administrator account. Either way, I can't see
any way out of this.

Of course brute force is a way but is it worth it? Why not simply
copy/backup personal documents and then reformat the HD.

I've used the program below to clear the passwords when someone left a
computer for me to fix but forgot to leave me the password! :)

You need to burn it to CD or DVD and boot the computer from the CDROM drive.
