Where in windows is the viewers archive of displayed pictures kept, I have pictures that were accidentally removed
but don't remember the path to the system archive.

To my knowledge Photo Viewer doesn't make a backup; it is just showing the pictures in your (or the Public) pictures folders. If you delete them they are gone unless you have Windows Backup or some 3rd party backup program running.

Photos are normally kept in C:\USERS\{youruserid}\Pictures (or C:\USERS\PUBLIC\Pictures)

If you deleted them then check the Recycle Bin to see if they can be restored.
