Windows 7 Error: Attempting Boot From Hard Drive Missing Operating System

I'm encountering an issue when trying to log into my Windows 7 computer. The screen displays "Attempting Boot From Hard Drive Missing operating system" and I don't have any USB drives connected. What can be done to resolve this?
