Try to not be limited to what you may be reading as far as
compatability.Many products still have not been updated to reflect that they
will work with 7. Most drivers that are compatible for Vista will work with
7. If you find a printer that you like that works with Vista try checking
the makers website under driver support. There may already be an updated
driver or the Vista driver will work with 7 with no problem. Business-wise
it would ridiculous to sell a current printer that is not 7 compatible

My several-year-old HP 1020 works just fine under 7, though you may want
something fancier. Incidentally, I use Rosewill toner cartridges
(Newegg) and they seem to work just as well as HP carts. I just bought
one that I don't need yet because they were on sale for $25--compared to
nearly $70 for HP.

I've always liked the HP LaserJet 5L/6L because of their VERY small
footprint and because they're readily available used for low prices
from Ebay or Craig's List. Toner cartridges are inexpensive and
readily available.

Their only failing is feeding two or more sheets at a time which is
easily fixed with new parts available from Ebay for around $20 and 30
minutes time (less if you've done it before.) The feed kits use
improved 'rubber' stuff and should last much longer than the original.

Win7 installs the printer automatically as does Vista. BTW, since it
uses a parallel port I use a parallel to USB cable which works
perfectly and, again, Win7 installs it automatically.

I find the 6 page/minute adequate for me, YMMV.

HP 1018 monochrome laser printer works fine on Win7 and it is a good
little printer. Still on the same toner cartridge it came with and that
was 3 years ago. I don't print much though and do have an extra toner
cartridge in the closet. Cost me $100.00 CAD at Walmart.

I have a (10 year old?) 6L that I love, and is hooked to an XP machine,
previously a Win98 machine. About 5 years ago, I installed the rubber
pick up repair kit, then free from HP, when it began to feed more than a
sheet at a time. It's worked fine ever since.

I am glad to hear that Windows 7 recognizes the 6L, and the parallel to
USB cable will work.

Yep. I bought one for my mom and sister a few months ago. The only thing
with those is if you print a lot, the small toner cartridges will quickly add-up,
and will soon you will have paid more than if you bought their more expensive
model which accepts the larger cartridges. Even the "High Yield" TN-360
cartridge is only rated for 2600 pages.
