Windows 7 and WoW 4

I don't run World of Warcraft on Win7, but I have a friend who does and
is having quite a lot of issues with launching and updating it.

One new wrinkle is that he is no longer able to launch the wow.exe
directly, he must now run the launcher instead. (This is brand-new
behavior in the last couple of weeks, so it's possible that it is
something specific Blizzard did in a recent update).

He also must login as the admin to update the application.

The WoW install folder is NOT inside Program Files, but is instead at
C:\WoW\

Any hints?

?The new launcher checks for updates. It also can do updates while you play.
Make sure the launcher is allowed in the firewall.
Not sure why his Wow folder is at the root of drive c:
Mine is in the program files x86 folder (Running 64 bit) and I can launch
the Wow.exe directly. It will kick me back to the launcher if it is not up
to date.

He may need to run the repair program and if that does not work reinstall
Wow.

Yes, that's true. But it also slows down the launch process and ofter
will fail to grab the news, and will then have to be quit and
relaunched.

That's not the issue.

He was trying to avoid a constant stream of "mother may I" prompts from
the system.

Is that on WoW4 Live or WoWW4 beta?

That is on both live & beta. I would move the folder to where it should be
C:\program files\world of warcraft
then update the link for the launcher icon.
