Where does W7 look for drivers?

Jeff Layman

I just tried to connect a Nokia mobile phone to a W7 laptop using
bluetooth. Everything seemed to go ok, except that W7 couldn't find a
driver. Nor could the W7 Troubleshooter.

On the Nokia website I found what appeared to be drivers, downloaded
them (I wasn't sure which one was required) and ran the Troubleshooter
again.

It still couldn't find the drivers, but it seemed to only search the
internet - there didn't seem to be a way of pointing it to where I'd
stored the downloaded files.

In the end, I downloaded Nokia's bloatware Ovi suite (all 91.5Mb of it!)
and installed it. After installation the laptop connected to the phone
via bluetooth without problem.

I'd love to uninstall this piece of junk and just keep the drivers, but
am not sure which file(s) I need to keep. Anyone solved this problem
before?

Hi,
I have a Nokia E72 and a cheapy plug in Bluetooth device.
All I did was install the drivers for the Bluetooth device and enable it
in the taskbar. I used nothing from Nokia.

That's normal for any phone, for getting the basic functions gong at least.
Everything looks like totally standard devices when "seen" through
Bluetooth.
