I am using a HP HDX laptop using windows7 and i have a question. When I am on line and download something off the web directly to a USB that I have installed where does the data go? Does any of it go to my hard drive? If i lost the USB can I retrieve any of the data ? Thanks

It's possible it passes through a temporary folder for your browser but probably not, since you specifically directed it to USB.

Thank you for the response. How can I see if it is in the temp. folder? Is there any way to see if any of the data is still on my hard drive?

For IE files open Windows Explorer (not internet explorer) and type in:
%localappdata%\Microsoft\Windows\Temporary Internet Files
