W7 EHD Backup in 32 bit to download to 64bit

Have 5 year old machine with W7 Pro 32 bit but want to move to new faster W7 64 bit machine. Will I be able to back up to EHD in 32 bit and reload the data to the 64 bit machine using the EHD?

Just bought (cheap) CORE portable which says it is for bit only, in print I need a magnifying glass to read!

My normal BU is on other EHD too.

My concern was the portable and EHD being in 32 bit, and I see I missed that for the portable.

If I can I would like to have a nice clean install of my data from BU external disk to a new machine.

The existing machine OS was an upgrade from Win XP Pro and a nightmare, the data mess up still causing me trouble.

Out of interest, in any case, how would I connect the new and old machines side by side to only get the data I want an avoid the registry, email setting etc.?
