Using a Virtual Box to control a Printer/Scanner

Hello Experts,

I read a great post by Oldster recently and eventually I downloaded and
installed the Oracle VM Virtualbox 4.0.4 edition.

My problem is that I have a Win 7 Home Edition and my Canon Pixma MP
170 printer/scanner is about 4 years old. The scanner will not work with
Win 7.

I have been looking through the huge User Manual and I reckon it would
take me a week to digest.

Does anyone have a short list of instructions for setting up this scanner?

TIA

Try the settings for older versions of windows.
Worth a try.

User manual of the scanner, or user manual of VirtualBox? It's a
while since I used it, but as I recall it's not more complicated than
File » New. VirtualBox prompts you for OS type and other parameters.
You do need a Windows XP install disk and key, of course.

But before you go to that extent, why not do some googling? I have a
Canon LiDE 50, also unsupported in Windows 7, and in lots of googling
I came up empty. But a few months later, a kind person here posted
the URL of a driver that works just fine with my scanner. So the
longer one waits, the more likely is a solution that won't require a
virtual machine.
