Well, I've been pretty unsuccessful, but I *do* recognize attempts at

Well, that's close. In my case, I'd rephrase it thus:
"I just discover a lot more things that don't work."
So, either
(1) I've bought a representative sample of stuff and manufacturing
really is messed up these days, or
(2) My luck is bad and I keep buying the one broken item in the store.
Of course, there's no chance that I have ever broken anything myself.
....I'm leaving out the smileys because we grown-ups don't need such
help.
