Strange Desktop Outline Boxed Icons??

I don't know what I did. Can anyone help?

Some of my desktop icons have a faint square outline surrounding them I'd
like removed.

CCleaner, Firefox, Adobe Reader and OpenOffice don't.

What did I or "they" do? Or, is this merely a graphic artifact???

I'm at the morning mentality, not very effective.

I can't tell if it shows in medium or small icon view.

I'll say this, it was interesting to right-click on the desktop and pop-up
VIEW --> Show Desktop Icons to hide them in "one fell swoop." Nice!

Anyone?

TIA,

Andy

Do you definitely mean Desktop? An outline like that on the Taskbar means
the app is running.

XP does that as well :)

I would say it something to do with Transparency of the icons. But
cant tell you how to fix it

Trev,

I don't know what I or "they" did! DAMMIT!!! ;)

It obviously represents the "bounding-box" icon space.

Strange that some show it and some don't.

It wasn't there yesterday. Or I just noticed, which ain't like me.

Later, I'll fuss around with the Display control panel a bit.

Best,

Andy

I don't have any desktop icons displayed but I just had a look and When I
set them to large I see what you see but not at Medium.

Trev,

Yes! Thanks.

I'll revert back to medium icon size.

So is it safe to assume that's an icon graphics artifact bug?

I'd submit that it's a Desktop icon artifact bug. It doesn't appear in
drives or folders in that fashion with large icons.

I think that is because the program or other icon source does not have
an icon large enough to satisfy the "Large Icon" selection, so the area
is filled with free space and marked with the thin border,

Well its the outline of the image. The transparency obviously has to have
space as its still 8 bits of Opacity part of the 32 bit image 8 of red, 8
of Green, 8 of Blue and 8 of opacity. The difference is scale The edge is so
thin it can only be seen on large Icons.
