Hi

Is there a way to get rid of those small preview images that
show just above the processline when the mouse hover over a
button there ?

And can I stop windows from maximizing when they are dragged
to the top of the screen ?

Thanks in advance
Best regards

Press F1, and look up "snap".

Hi Bob I

Press F1, and look up "snap".
That was lucky, in Danish it is also called "snap"
So that one is disabled now.:):)
Thanks You very much.

If you are referring to the Thumbnails that appear when you hover over
the button in the taskbar for open Windows, then you want to open System
Properties, Advanced tab, Performance Settings button, and UNcheck the
very last option in the list "Use visual styles on windows and buttons".
That will reduce it to a text flyout identifying which open window the
button/icon is active for.

Aaaah, thats to much change, the whole win7 goes to some kind of
clasic xp style.
I like the nice colors, I just dont like those small previews

Thanks anyway

MS copied the preview thumbnails that pop up from Linux Compiz. With
Linux, however, you can disable them and only them. Aero is quite
primitive compared to Compiz in Linux. I guess if MS stole all of Compiz,
they would face legal problems so they're copying them a little at a time
and badly enough to be able to say it's different. To give you an idea of
how Compiz can really be configured and to see what Windows 7 wished it
were, check this out:

And here's Compiz in yet another configuration, very unlike Windows of any
flavor.

Those pirated videos play pretty well on that Ubuntu.

Who copied from whom again? Aston Shell had this for about 10 years now.
And Aston only runs under Windows.

And it still looks like it was made ten years ago. Not even close to
similar. Also, their web site says "buy now". Compiz comes free with
Linux. What you get with Win 7 is not very configurable and a lame
imitation of Compiz, not Aston Shell.
You can configure it many different ways. And there are lots of other
Aston Shell videos on youtube as well.

The problem with Linux of course, is that it only runs Linux software.
And there are no Linux software out there that I actually like. Not a
single one! So having Linux and no applications doesn't help much, now
does it? As I am not interested in staring at a desktop all day. ;-)

So who copied from whom, Alias? Aston calls them preview thumbnails.
Although it is the same thing.

That's a photo of a Chinese store selling pirated Windows and Linus
thinks it's funny. Your point?
It was taken in Japan and not China for one. And it was across the
street from the Japan Linux Symposium exhibition. My point? You make
crap up as you go along. And you never get anything right. Nor are your
statements factual either.

I know and they all look like Windows 95 dressed up.
Most Linux distros look just like Windows did 15 years ago. Heck,
Xandros running in easy mode looks more like Windows 3.1 than anything
else. ;-)
You use Linux software every day.
No, every other day if that.
Your ignorance isn't a credible argument.
Really? I use Thunderbird and Firefox under Linux and they are the
weakest applications that I know of. Can't use anything better under
Linux because Linux doesn't run the good stuff!
Stick to Windows. Linux is too complicated for you, although it isn't
for a 77 year old lady I know who has been using it for fours years
and is happy as a clam with it.
Linux complicated? Hardly, it is built for people who are too stupid to
know Linux applications are no better than Palm OS applications. That is
why I call Linux a glorified PDA OS (as that is all it is good for). And
that is why only less than 1% run Linux.

You guess wrong (again).

The caption:

"Microsoft tried to torpedo the success of the Japan Linux Symposium
by launching their Windows 7 product that same day. They even had
setup a big promotion booth across the street from the conference
center.
During a break, we decided to make some fun of Microsoft and dragged
Linus over there. When we arrived there, Linus was sold immediately on
the product as you can see in the picture. At least that's what the
sales guy thought. He obviously had no idea who he was dealing with.
But in the end Linus surprisingly did not buy a copy. Wise man!"

So, you were saying?
That one picture was used to sell many Windows 7 copies. And I don't
know if you ever read Linus Torvalds book? But he talked highly of
Windows and claims he even uses it.

I see you didn't watch the videos and are stuck in your biased and
uninformed mind set which is par for the course for you.
Sure I did. It's no big deal. Aston has been doing that for about 10
years now. Seems like Compiz stolen it from Aston, eh? I also noticed
that Compiz stolen RocketDock as well. Is there anything that Compiz
didn't steal?
None of my Linux installs look like Windows. Maybe if you see the eye
doctor and get a new prescription for your glasses ..
None of my Windows looks like Windows either. As I don't use the Windows
shell. As I have Mac, Linux, etc themes for my Windows. Looks like other
OS, but runs the most popular Windows software. It is a win-win.
Something that you don't know anything about. ;-)

And yes, distros like KDE looks just like the 15 years old Windows 95.
Clearly you just got off of the banana boat, didn't you?
No, every day, even when you're running Windows.
Really? What Linux software am I using right now smartass?

Ignorance? Coming from the guy who gets everything wrong. That is pretty
funny. Things like Compiz did it first, Linus Torvalds was in China in
that picture, standing in front of a pirate shop, etc.
Your blatant ignorance isn't a credible argument.
It is the truth. Thunderbird has a very tiny user base and I post the
article about that before. And there is nothing special about Firefox.
As it is just a simple browser which is worthless without add-ons. Yes
all of those unstable add-ons which then makes FF to run like crap. But
hey, if you like it, then go for it.
In the US and according to biased web stats, yes. In the real world,
millions are using Linux and it's growing in leaps and bounds. If you
think that's all Linux can do, your ignorance is raising its ugly head
again and that, my friend, is no argument.
My ignorance? ROTFL I heard this same crap for the past 20 years. That
Linux is growing by leaps and bounds. Yet I haven't seen it grow hardly
at all in two decades. Got any other BS you want to add?

I use it too but not nearly as much as I used to. You don't speak for
anyone but yourself, chum, and when Mr. Torvalds comes here and
praises Windows, I will be impressed. Your stupid conclusions are not
impressive.
ROTFL I didn't write Linus Torvalds book. He did! I am not asking you to
believe me. Do you ever get anything right? It sure doesn't look like
it.

"Stolen"? Where did you study English?
In Canada, eh.
I know you're an idiot. I also know about how one can change Windows
to look like a Mac or Linux.
Then what difference does it make? Linux isn't so special, now is it?
No, it doesn't.
Sure it does.

When you go on the net, you are using Linux servers. Man, you're dumb.
Oh you mean that ones that has all of those Windows viruses? Yeah isn't
that great? Linux is a virus haven. lol
I only glanced at it and then admitted I was wrong when you posted the
web page again and I took a closer look at it.
You only glace at most things genius. ;-)
I use Chromium in Linux. You seem to think that the majority is always
right and that large usage equals quality. With your "logic", eating
at McDonald's is good for you.
Nonsense! Chromium uses Webkit which is good, but the rest not. That is
why I use Maxthon 3 which uses Webkit. And your header says you are
using Thunderbird. So you are the one eating at McDonalds, eh? ROTFL
You haven't seen it because you can't take your blinders off.
ROTFL I haven't had blinders on since the 60's. The ratio between Linux,
Mac, and Windows users hasn't changed much in 20 years. If you believe
otherwise, show us your proof smartass! But you can't since it doesn't
exist. lol
