MS Word Document

R. H. Breener

I moved a whole folder of texts written several years ago and they saved as
Documents or Doc's. But now, on W-7, I can't open them. I get an error
that says "MS Word Starter 2010 cannot be opened. Try again or repair the
product in Control Panel." However, there is no choice to repair it there.
I can uninstall the program, but not repair it. How can I get these Doc's
opened so they can be sent to the person needing them?

TIA

Install Libre Office, and open them in that. Then uninstall the MS
product. LO understands all MS formats, sometimes better than a
different version of the MS program that generated them.

To send them to another user, though, you don't need to open them for
editing, just send them a copy of the file(s). If you need to edit them
first, open them in LO, edit them, and then save them in MS Word format.
Just ignore the warning about losing data when you don't save in the LO
native format.

This will work for most MS Office documents, with certain reservations
if complex formatting is used.

Example of repairing, here.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&docname=c02981221#N53

A couple web pages, claim it isn't a trial version, and is real
software.

To open your document, please install this Microsoft pack:

<http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3>

You can't edit any documents using this but you can read them.

If by send you mean Email, then just attach the files to the email. You
don't need to open them to send them via email.
