I have just installed the 64 bit edition on my laptop and the memory shows as "4.0 GB installed (3.37 GB used)"

I thought 64bit versions should use the full 4.0 GB, any ideas why it doesn't?

For reference I did have XP 64 bit installed a while back and that showed all 4.0 GB so I know the hardware supports it.

Just because the memory is there doesn't mean it will be 100% used all the time. As you stated yourself Windows 7 64bit correctly registers that 4GB is available for use.

If you want start Task Manager, click the Performance Tab, then click the Resource Monitor button. Now click the Memory tab in the new windows for a detailed rundown on your system's memory usage.
