HP Pavilion Desktop p6240f. Where did my 1394 firewire go? Win 7

I've been trying to start a firewire device via my firewire ports on my
p6240f. It's not working. I cannot even find the 1394 device in system
devices. I've had my PC for nearly 3 years, and have never tried the
device on it until now. I did find this link to this problem when
people upgrade to Win7 for an HP and Compaq.

Possibly the fix there would repair my problem?

For several years I let some HP h/w checking program loose on my PC. It
started once a month. Forgot the name of it. I never saw in complain
about the firewire port.

I Google for a driver for the p6240f. Found a site for the drivers, but
no mention of firewire.

Looking here

for the system, and here

for the motherboard, I see no mention of firewire at all. Do you have an
add-in card for it? If so, then look at the card and see who the
manufacturer is, then check there for a driver. From the documentation and
specs, it doesn't look like it has it natively.

Searching the Upgrade and Service Manual
<http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01859455.pdf> for "fire" and "1394"
returned no hits.

Thanks for that info. It'll be useful, especially the service manual;
however, I discovered the problem. The PC does have firewire. I looked
inside and saw a 2x3" or so PC card for it. I figured it was maybe
kaput. Then I reached into my very old bag of tricks, and pushed it
lightly. It is now working!!

Ah yes, the ol' "reseat it to clean the contacts" method :) Been there,
done/recommended that many times over the years.

I'm glad it's working for you. That must have been an add-on option not
listed in the general specs. Did you buy it new, or from someone else? Is it
plugged into one of the PCIe x1 slots?

Bought it new. The specs don't even show a firewire port.
