HP Help and Tools Missing

O

OREALLY

The HP Help and Tools folder is empty on my HP Pavillion p6720f. HP support
is useless. Can anyone show me how to reinstall this utility that came with
this computer. It is not listed in the recovery Manager so I'm at a loss
right now.

Thanks,

Oreally

Thanks...but the HP Support Assistant is a boondoggle that won't update. The
PC tools is a separate folder which contains the Computer info. I have the
recovery discs but don't know how to install just the PC Help and Tools
programs. Any ideas?

It might be part of the HP Support Assistant, which you can get here (choose
32-bit or 64-bit, whichever you have):

Have you ever had another HP product installed, such as a printer? It's
possible that it's a leftover from an uninstall.

I don't know. My laptop a few years ago was HP with Vista with HP Help
and Tools on it. Once I went to Win 7 on a format of HD, and I installed
Win 7, I had no more use for anything from HP software wise, and I never
looked back.

Sadly, the HP help on my Vista based laptop is more trouble than it's
worth. If I need something like a driver, and HP has it, going to the
website is less trouble. It also seems that one a model is a few years
old, HP help is next to useless, due to lack of updates.

The only thing of real note on my laptop is that HP had to supply
replacement batteries for free, due to recalls.

Did you wipe this machine and reinstall Windows thereby also wiping tools HP included on their factory images but not on their
Recovery media.
- iirc doing the above has been a common occurrence dating back to HP's OEM Win95 systems that actually came with an OEM operating
system cd (many were labeled as a 'Companion' CD)

Nice icon by the way :)

Pictures of what is provided with it, here.

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01501830&lc=en&cc=uk&dlc=en

Latest versions here.

http://h18021.www1.hp.com/helpandsupport/hp-self-support.html

http://h18021.www1.hp.com/helpandsupport/hp-support-assistant.html

"To install or re-install HP Support Assistant on your computer:

1. Download the appropriate ".exe" file to your PC by clicking the link below.
2. Run the downloaded file and follow the onscreen instructions.

(Support for both 32-bit and 64-bit platforms)"

(Desktop version)

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp54501-55000/sp54931.exe (55MB)

Now, when I look inside the installer, it has a

HPHASUtil.exe

so perhaps you could look on the existing disk, for
something like that. If you can locate that, perhaps
that will be in the middle of an installer folder for it.
The folder it was in, was "HPSA".

It appears to use InstallShield, so the trail stops there for me.

Try the HP Support Forum. Those are non-HP staff and far more
intelligent. You'll stand the best chance of getting the things in there;

There is no "HP Help and Tools" folder on my HP TouchSmart 310. Maybe
it is called something else on some systems.
