I know, mcaffe is a piece of s***. sorry to anyone who has it, but honestly it is awful. And dont get me started on AVG.
I hate it when people complain when AVG doesnt work or it lets through viruses. Its a free security software, you get what you pay for basically.

Avast works great with every build I've had so far. AVG was very dodgy for me, while Avira was just plain irritating.

Mind you I don't get a lot on viruses, my surfing habits preclude that.

Cheers!

I've got a mix of antivirus software running on my machines, split evenly between Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 for my main ones and then Avira Free AV for the ones I don't use very often.

As much as I like KIS 2009, I've this series of AV software for quite some time and would be interested to hear your recommendations? Ideally something with a built in firewall and POP3 scanning :)
I think as long as your running ones of these you'll be fine.

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/antivirus-partners/windows-7.aspx

I ran Comodo IS but had a "PC issue" in W7 as it is was a format no longer supported.

I wouldn't recommend Kaspersky.
it keep detecting my games and software - LEGITIMATE, ORIGINAL files as trojans and etc.
I disable protection before running the software and KAV STILL detects it and quarantines it.

So i have to go through the annoying process of excluding the individual file every day so far due to the fact it's not doing what i tell it to do - which is disable it's protection.

Now if these were cracks, keygens or etc i wouldn't be bothered and actually consider them as infected items.

however i'm vastly in doubt right now as to wether KAV is any good at all, since it's detected legit original copies.
How do i know if i EVER get a virus? How do i know it's not just YET ANOTHER false positive?

12 odd false positives since i started installing + testing my games on W7 = **** off, kaspersky.

I have never had this problem, it has only ever detected trojans and quarantines them when I make batch files or when their is a trojan, or trojan downloader in my system. apart from that it is fine, it works like a treat for me.

I'm using KIS 2009, but it still uses the KAV engine and I've always found it to do a good job. There was one false positive when it came to a MySQL management tool (SQLYog) which was also picked up by a couple of other scanners (it seems it was a known issue with that particular version). Other than that it's always been ok.

That said, I'm going with ESET once I've got the retail version of Windows 7 installed :)

Best would be Microsoft's New AV
Not if it is anything like windows defender :p that doesn't even WORK in alot of cases.

Need for speed pro street, Assasins' Creed and crysis 1s' official executibles XD

I am running MSE with absolutely no issues. It has caught the few things I've thrown at it (keygens & trojans), and runs with a low memory footprint. As per below:

As for what others think of MSE, check out THIS.

Sounds like a winner to me.

I'm waiting for AV Comparatives' data. They're the leading evaluator of anti-virus clients, and their recommendations are gold.

That's a great plan. They have a waaaaaaaaaaaaay better testing protocol than I do.

Thanks for mentioning them, I had no knowledge they even existed.

AV-test.org tested MSE against 3,200 virii.
Considering there have been over 5,000 since 1995 anyone with sense should see their attempts as woefully failing.

I haven't verified it, but from quick perusing it seems teh current virii database at symantec is around 90,000 virii large.

To date, M$ has released 76 security updates for XP.
That makes a total of 86,700 odd virii that MSE has not been tested against and that you are vulnurable to.

AV-Comparatives test with 22,000 samples.

I'm getting rather sick of "website this" and "website that" comparisons because honestly, they are purely wasting your time.

If they had even the remotest clue on what they were doing, they'd know that a good 90% of those 90,000 odd virii are still a threat today.

If we are not running a suitable AV, we are susceptible to virii that were written for windows 95 still.

To anyone who is considering a switch in AV's; Keep your old AV installed for a few months or scan regularly with some additional online scanners.

Support for one care will be retracted either shortly before or after windows 7 release.
it will never be released for windows 7.

MSE is the replacement for One Care.
