Backup Progam

Before installing Windows 7 I had for a long time been using PC Backup
from StompSoft. Now that program now longer will run under Windows 7
and it appears that the company no longer exists. I am looking for a
Backup program that will allow me to recover one or more specific files
AND provide for recovery if there was a complete HD failure.

I would appreciate any suggetions.

Win 7 has one built in Under properties for any folder is a Previous
Versions tab. From where you can restore a previous version if one exists In
the backup. You will need to read its help files and the previous Version
help files to Know if its suitable for your Needs.

Take a look at Acronis True Image.
It creates backups, Images and can clone a HD to another.
It allows you to restore a single file from the image file.
A quick Google should turn it up for you

System Recovery will restore the programs that were on the hard drive when
you got it, and an external hard drive will restore individual files , or
all files, to a point in time. Programs that you added since buying or
setting up WIN 7 can be restored through the same way that you added them,
usually through CD's or DVD's or downloads. It works. System restore is good
for minor HD malfunctions......Dick M

You can backup your hard drive and recover individual
files using the tools in Win7. You don't need any other software.
To backup the complete drive you create a system image,
Control Panel
System and Security
Backup and restore
Create a system image.

Here's how I did mine:
http://www.admin1.myzen.co.uk/Win7BackUP.htm
The image is stored as a VHD file (virtual hard disk).

To recover from a total failure you boot from the repair
disk and restore the image.

To recover individual files go to Disk Management:
Right-click Computer > Manage > Disk Management.
In Disk Management select Action > Attach VHD.
Browse to the VHD file in the backup you created.
The image will then be mounted as a virtual disk drive
and assigned a drive letter.
You can then use Explorer to access any files.

You should take a look at this one?
- Macrium Reflect (Vista, Win7, 32-bit, 64-bit)
http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.asp

Works fine (and it's free).

I saw nothing at that link to say it supports Win 7. Is there something I missed?

Thanks,

I have made a backup using Windows 7 backup program, but didn't realize
that you could do an individual restore of a specific file using the
previous version option under Properties. If I understand it this can
also be used to restore a folder with any number of sub-folders. That
should be all I need.

Thank you.
