i have two drives in my old Compaq desk top, i have installed win7 on the D drive because i was having problems installing on C over xp.
i now want to delete xp ( format the drive for storage) but the pc will not boot up without the c drive installed and the D drive as slave.
can anyone tell me in layman's terms how to make D the default boot drive and delete xp from my pc.

Set your D: drive as the Master & remove the C:. Be sure to rescan the drives in the BIOS. Now insert a bootable W7 DVD into the DVD-rom and, making sure the DVD is first in the boot order, boot to the DVD. Then run start-up repair. Remove the DVD a reboot to make sure you have a W7 boot sector now.

Reconnect your old C: drive as a slave. And boot up W7. You should be able to format the slave drive.
