Adobe pre-installed products

On my new W 7 laptops I find several Adobe programs:
Adobe Reader
Adobe Air
Adobe Flash Player (Active-X)
Adobe Flash Player (NPAPI)

I uninstalled Adobe reader because I prefer Foxit. But I am not sure
about the others because what I find on the web is confusing and over my
head.

If I uninstalled Adobe Flash Player (Active-X) and Adobe Flash Player
(NPAPI) will that mean that videos that use Flash will no longer run?

What is Adobe AIR? Is it necessary? What do I give up f I uninstalled it?

Thanks.

Keep the Flash apps. They are needed for most video playbacks in your
browser.

Adobe AIR is something to do with web design. I dumped it years ago.

AIR is described here. AIR may have been force installed, when
you installed Acrobat Reader 9. But the description here, suggests
it uses other elements. In any case, I'm not aware of *ever* having
any AIR content on the computer.

If you uninstall Flash, then Flash video isn't going to run. There
may be other means to play the actual video files, but setting up
the streaming, probably requires the plugin. I keep Flash in one
browser, and remove it from the other, and use the browser appropriate
at the time. If I was visiting Youtube for some reason, I'd use
the Flash equipped browser. If visiting sites trying to force advertising
on me, I'd use the other browser. Note that, with the most modern
browsers, sites also have the option of using HTML5 video. So they're
not limited in the means of offering advertising. In desperation,
they can also use animated GIFs, and the "belly fat" advert uses
that technique, when the browser isn't as well equipped for video.

I think ActiveX is for IE, and NPAPI is for 'other' browser (Firefox,
Opera, etc...) Flash is updating rapidly lately, so make certain you
have the latest.

You can download the latest standalone installers for Flash here:
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html

Typically, download the two EXE installers. The first is for IE, the
second for other browsers. Once installed, the latest versions have an
option to check and install the latest versions automatically. It's up
to you if you want to enable that or not.

Thank you both. Excellent advice.

Will uninstall Adobe AIR.

Thanks. You have been very helpful.

I have a game that is written using it. My understanding is that
it is not used much.

Sincerely,
