Windows easy transfer

Easy Transfer was of great help transferring XP to W7U on a new motherboard.
Could it be used to transfer from 32 bit to 64 bit W7U on the same machine,
64-bit capable?

(The reason for the question is somewhat annoying. I recently replaced my M/B /
CPU / storage with a powerful new pre-built bundle, meaning to transfer from
32-bit XP to 64-bit W7U. Try as I might, I could not get past the loading of
RAID or ACPI drivers, 32 or 64. W7 gave me an error code when I told it to
install on C: after loading drivers. I called M$ technical support but they
could not find my sticker number on their system, implied that I had bought from
Amazon a pirate copy, and actually put the phone down. Needless to say, I
installed 32-bit W7U without any special drivers, and the system activated and
was validated using that same sticker number.)

Hi, Robin.

WET should work fine for transferring all your data and settings from Win7
x86 to Win7 x64 on the same machine. It should be even smoother than from
WinXP to Win7.

WET does not transfer most apps, of course, in either situation. In
addition to transferring the program files themselves, each application's
Setup or Install program needs to run so that it can make the proper entries
in the new OS's Registry. In moving from 32-bit to 64-bit (or vice versa),
this will include selecting the proper DLLs and other support files for the
new "bitness". But WET will help you to remember which apps were installed
on the earlier system, provide some guidance in the re-installation, and in
many cases help with restoring your tweaks to make the program fit you.

When making such a transition on a single computer, we can even simplify the
process if there is enough hard disk space - and it is conveniently
organized. We can store WET's output from the first OS on a spare partition
on the HDD, then have WET import from there into the new OS. Cuts out the
flash drive or other "middleman" for the temporary storage facility. ;<)

A word of warning. DO NOT use WET to transfer Outlook data if you use
Outlook.
It usually corrupts the Outlook Mail profile.

Thanks. Outlook is on the system somewhere, but I don't use it.
